“No Written Zoning Agreement in Ikwuano” – Critics Challenge Clan-Based Advocacy for 2027 Assembly Seat- Ikwuano Group

IKWUANO – A strong counter-argument has emerged in response to recent calls for the Ibere Clan to exclusively produce the next Abia State House of Assembly member for Ikwuano State Constituency in 2027.

Sources within the constituency, Ikwuano Liberation Organization (ILO) have challenged the push for clan-based rotation, stating that there is “no written document to confirm that zoning is allowed in Ikwuano State Constituency election.” They argue that the constituency has always operated on a democratic, merit-based contest where aspirants from all clans are free to compete.

“We stand on credible leadership and not championing clanship leadership,” one community stakeholder emphasized. “During past elections, all clans—including Ibere—have produced aspirants who contested for the position. That is the true spirit of democracy.”

The counter-narrative particularly highlighted the Oboro Clan, noting that its aspirants are equally qualified, given that in previous House of Assembly elections, Ibere Clan has also fielded candidates across multiple parties, just as Oboro and others have.

“To single out one clan now undermines the competitive and inclusive political history of Ikwuano. Let the best candidate, regardless of clan, emerge through a fair process,” another observer noted.

This response reflects deepening political dialogue within Ikwuano as the 2027 elections draw nearer, with clear divisions between advocates of rotational clan representation and proponents of open, merit-based contests.
