Nsulu Airport Land Compensation Fraud By Abia State Government

ABA, NIGERIA — Fresh allegations have emerged accusing the Abia State Government of turning the compensation for land and properties of individuals at the Nsulu Airport project into a conduit for fraud, with revelations of over 1,000 fictitious names inserted into the payment list .

According to a statement by Obinna Oriaku (Ekwedike), many discerning Abians have questioned why a government that claims to be people-welfare oriented would prioritize the payment of N40 billion as compensation while ignoring the gratuities of workers who retired as far back as 2000, especially when other governors have cleared such backlogs .

Recent revelations from Hon. Uzo Azubuike, the liaison between Nsulu landowners and the state government, have reportedly exposed that over 1,000 fictitious names were inserted by officials of the state government from the Ministry of Lands .

The fake names were discovered by the Nsulu landowners themselves. Nsulu, being a close-knit ancient community where people know one another and the history of family land ownership, experienced shock when they identified strange names on the government’s published list that had never existed, nor belonged to known families or landowners in that location .

Some of these names, along with their account numbers, bear Yoruba names among the Ngwa people. Community members insist that family farmlands cannot be sold without notifying the community, and to the best of their cultural records, no such sales were ever made to those Yoruba names on the list .

Shockingly, the total amount allocated to these 1,000 strange names is approximately N1.4 billion .

Oriaku questioned why the government has remained mute following Hon. Uzo Azubuike’s revelation about the fake 1,000 beneficiaries, stating that a government claiming to be an epitome of integrity cannot brush off this discovery from its own data .

“It is very clear that the Alex Otti administration is worse than past administrations. The only difference is Mr. President’s economic reforms, which have placed an average of N60 billion into the hands of most state governors monthly. Unfortunately, Otti still claims that ‘repainting’ is achievement even after pocketing billions from the improved allocations from APC Federal Government,” Oriaku stated .
