Obi Blasts Alleged Distribution of Campaign Vehicles as “Profound Insensitivity”

Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has issued a scathing condemnation of the alleged distribution of luxury vehicles to state coordinators of a political group linked to the Federal Government, describing the act as a grave “abuse of trust.”

In a strongly worded statement titled “Distribution of Campaign Vehicles: Profound Insensitivity and Abuse of Trust” and posted on his social media account, Obi reacted to reports that President Bola Tinubu presented Toyota Land Cruisers, Hilux trucks, and Hummer buses to coordinators of the “Renewed Hope Ambassadors”.

Obi labelled the alleged move as “not only insensitive but also represents a serious moral failure,” arguing it highlights a tragic misplacement of priorities at a time when Nigerians are grappling with hunger, unemployment, and insecurity.

“At a time when Nigerians are struggling… the decision of any government to allocate limited public resources for distributing luxury vehicles… is unacceptable,” Obi stated. He emphasized that governance should focus on “providing food for the hungry, ensuring access to healthcare for the sick, restoring hope for millions of unemployed youth, and securing our communities.”

The former Anambra State governor asserted that such actions treat the suffering of citizens as “mere background for political theatrics.” He concluded forcefully, “This is not governance. It reflects a profound insensitivity and an abuse of public trust disguised as a political strategy.”

As of now, there has been no official response from the presidency or the coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors to Obi’s allegations.
