Obi: I’ll Concede If 2027 Poll Is Credible

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has said he will concede defeat in the 2027 presidential election if the poll is conducted in a free, fair and credible manner.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that Obi made the statement during an interview on Arise Television on Thursday, stressing that he would respect the will of Nigerians should they choose another candidate.

He explained that democracy demands accepting the outcome of a genuinely credible process, noting that it is ultimately the people who decide who governs them.

However, Obi maintained that he actually won the 2023 presidential election, insisting that those who conducted the poll are aware of the irregularities that occurred and what he described as a technical glitch during collation.

On the question of zoning and a possible “turn-by-turn” presidency, Obi argued that leadership should be determined by competence rather than ethnicity or religion, citing his academic training at institutions including Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, Columbia and Kellogg. He added that he would step aside from the race if any of his qualifications were found to be false.

Obi also renewed his call for greater youth inclusion in governance, noting that no Nigerian born after 1960 has occupied the presidency since independence.

CDA News Nigeria will continue monitoring reactions to Obi’s remarks ahead of the 2027 general election.
