Opposition Reacts as Tinubu Approves Military Salary Increase

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approval of a salary increase for members of the Nigerian Armed Forces has sparked mixed reactions among opposition parties, with some welcoming the move while others questioned its timing and broader economic implications.

CDA News Nigeria reports that the pay adjustment is aimed at improving the welfare and morale of military personnel engaged in combating insecurity across the country. Supporters argue that better remuneration will motivate troops and strengthen national security efforts.

CDA News gathered from the report that while some opposition figures described the salary increase as a necessary step to reward the sacrifices of security personnel, others maintained that the government should also prioritize broader economic reforms, job creation, and improved living conditions for all Nigerians.

Critics also argued that welfare improvements for troops should be accompanied by better equipment, enhanced intelligence gathering, and comprehensive reforms within the security sector to achieve lasting results.

Despite the differing opinions, security analysts agree that improving the welfare of military personnel remains an important component of strengthening Nigeria’s fight against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other security challenges.

The Federal Government is expected to provide further details on the implementation of the new salary structure in the coming weeks.
