Collation of results from Saturday’s Ekiti State governorship election is progressing steadily, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) uploading polling unit results to its IReV portal throughout the day.
As of 9:30 p.m., INEC had uploaded 2,128 of the 2,445 expected polling unit results, representing 83.07 percent of the total, with strong coverage already recorded across Irepodun/Ifelodun, Ekiti East, and other local government areas.
Early returns showed incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) commanding a wide lead, while PDP’s Oluwole Oluyede and ADC’s Dare Bejide trailed in the partial count, with other parties recording marginal figures. Final aggregated totals are still being verified as collation continues.
The election, which had 1,028,929 PVC-collecting voters eligible out of 1,059,360 registered, saw voting conclude in most of the state’s 2,445 polling units before 3 p.m., after which sorting and counting commenced. Fourteen candidates contested the seat, with Oyebanji seeking a second term — a feat no Ekiti governor has achieved since the state’s return to democracy in 1999.
The process was not without friction: reports of vote buying and at least one clash between APC and ADC supporters were recorded in parts of the state during voting.
