The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ekiti State has raised alarm over delays in the distribution of electoral materials and alleged vote manipulation in Saturday’s election.
Speaking to journalists after visiting several polling units, the candidate accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of deliberately slowing down the process in strongholds of the opposition. He claimed that voting started late in many areas, disenfranchising eligible voters.
“We have received reports of deliberate delays in PDP-dominated areas. This is a clear attempt to manipulate the outcome of this election,” he stated.
The PDP candidate also alleged that some INEC officials were working in collusion with agents of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to compromise the integrity of the poll. He called on security agencies and election observers to intervene immediately.
INEC has yet to respond to the allegations. However, the electoral body had earlier assured voters of a transparent and efficient process across the state’s 2,445 polling units.
Political observers have expressed concern that the allegations could trigger tensions if not addressed promptly. The election has drawn over one million registered voters competing across 16 local government areas.
