The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured voters of a smooth electoral process in Saturday’s Ondo State by-election, despite facing network challenges that delayed the deployment of some materials.
INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ondo State, speaking during a press briefing in Akure, acknowledged technical difficulties caused by poor connectivity in some remote areas but insisted the commission had implemented backup measures to ensure uninterrupted voting.
“We experienced some network issues during the early hours, but our officials have switched to offline protocols. Voting will proceed seamlessly across all polling units,” the REC stated.
The by-election, held to fill a vacant seat in the state House of Assembly, has drawn significant attention from political observers monitoring INEC’s preparedness ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Security agencies have deployed personnel to all polling units to prevent any breach of peace. Voter turnout has been described as moderate, with election monitors praising the orderly conduct of the exercise.
Political analysts say the by-election serves as a critical test of INEC’s ability to manage electoral logistics under challenging conditions.
