The Kabiru Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for officially recognizing a caretaker committee aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike as the party’s legitimate leadership.
In a statement on Thursday, PDP National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong described INEC’s action as “unconstitutional and provocative,” warning that the faction would exhaust all legal avenues to challenge the decision.
The criticism follows INEC’s inclusion of the Wike-backed committee—led by Acting Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed and Acting Secretary Samuel Anyanwu—at its quarterly consultative meeting with political parties in Abuja.
Ememobong urged party members to remain calm, noting that the leadership dispute is still before the Court of Appeal. He asserted that INEC should have exercised restraint given pending litigation.
The ongoing crisis stems from a Federal High Court ruling that nullified the PDP’s November 2025 national convention and barred the Turaki-led National Working Committee from parading as party officers. Despite the ruling, the Wike-aligned camp has proceeded to form a caretaker committee, which has now gained INEC’s provisional recognition.
