The NDC presidential and vice-presidential candidates met with the party’s National Leader amid growing concerns over internal leadership disputes within the OK Movement.
The presidential and vice-presidential candidates of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, have met with the party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, at his Abuja residence amid a leadership crisis rocking the OK Movement, a coalition of the Kwankwassiyya and Obidient movements .
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the meeting, which took place on Wednesday, focused on the state of the party and preparations for the forthcoming campaigns expected to commence later this month. Senator Dickson confirmed the meeting in a post on his official Facebook page, describing the discussions as centred on the “positive state of affairs of our party” .
The OK Movement has recently been engulfed in a serious leadership dispute, with rival factions emerging within the group. The development has sparked anxiety among supporters of the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket, who fear that the internal disagreement could weaken the coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections .
CDA News Nigeria reports that Senator Dickson used the occasion to appeal to party members, supporters, and stakeholders to remain united and work together for victory. “I call on all members, supporters and stakeholders of our great party to unite, remain steadfast and work together for victory for all candidates of our party,” Dickson stated .
This meeting comes as the NDC continues to position itself as a major opposition force ahead of the 2027 elections. Earlier in the year, Obi and Kwankwaso had separately announced their exits from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) before joining the NDC . Dickson has previously stated that the party gave both candidates a “free hand” to choose candidates and officials for various positions .
