In a significant move to restore fairness in the education sector, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has approved the permanent absorption of more than 700 ad-hoc staff who have served the state’s tertiary institutions for over two decades.
The decision, announced on Thursday, follows a detailed verification exercise ordered by the governor to rectify irregular appointments made by the previous administration. Many of the affected workers had been earning between ₦6,000 and ₦15,000 monthly for over 20 years while performing core academic duties.
Governor Mutfwang described the previous process as “unacceptable,” stating his administration would not tolerate injustice. The absorption is part of broader reforms that have reportedly led to a tripling of student enrolment at Plateau Polytechnic and new degree programme approvals for the College of Education.
