The Nigeria Customs Service has appointed Comptroller Gambo Iyere Aliyu as the new head of its Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A, the Service’s frontline anti-smuggling formation covering the South-West.
Aliyu officially took over from the outgoing Comptroller, now Assistant Comptroller-General Mohammed Salisu Shuaibu, in a handover ceremony on Wednesday. The new commander brings a strong reputation for integrity, famously stemming from a case where his team rejected a $50,000 bribe offer while intercepting illicit goods.
In his acceptance speech, Comptroller Aliyu pledged to consolidate on his predecessor’s achievements, which included 476 seizures valued at over ₦10 billion in seven months. He emphasized a commitment to intelligence-driven operations, strict discipline, and enhanced stakeholder collaboration.
