Police Arrest Suspected Gun Manufacturer in Delta

ASABA, NIGERIA — Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a suspected illegal firearm manufacturer and dismantled a gun fabrication depot in the Emuhu community, Ika South Local Government Area.

The suspect, identified as Friday Ojei, 59, was apprehended in the early hours of March 6, 2026, during a raid conducted by the command’s Raiders Squad led by SP Akanya Agbogha.

The operation followed credible intelligence reports about an illegal firearm production site operating in the area.

A search of the premises led to the recovery of four locally fabricated guns, along with equipment used in the production of firearms, including a welding machine, drilling machine, grinding machine, and assorted metal pipes believed to be used in fabricating the weapons.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, stated that the suspect is currently in custody while investigations continue to identify and apprehend other members of the illegal firearm production network.

In a separate operation, a joint patrol team from the Ovwian Aladja Division recovered another locally made short gun during a stop-and-search operation along Film Hall Road in Ovwian-Aladja. The patrol team sighted a group of suspected hoodlums who fled on noticing the operatives, abandoning a black bag containing the firearm.

Meanwhile, operatives also arrested a suspected drug dealer, Esther Etafo, 43, during a raid along Oruworowh Road in Udu Local Government Area. Items recovered from her premises included quantities of suspected cannabis, kolos, ice, loud, fermented Indian hemp, three blenders believed to be used for processing the substances, and N55,000 suspected to be proceeds from the illegal drug trade.

The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Aina Adesola, commended the officers involved in the operations and urged residents to continue providing timely information to assist the police in tackling criminal activities across the state.
