President Tinubu Postpones G20, AU-EU Summit Trips Over Insecurity

ABUJA – President Bola Tinubu has postponed his scheduled trips to the G20 Summit in South Africa and the African Union-European Union Summit in Angola to focus on the escalating security situation in the country.

The decision, announced on Wednesday, comes as the President awaits comprehensive reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima and security agencies regarding the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the recent terrorist attack in Kwara State.

Presidential spokesperson Chief Ajuri Ngelale confirmed that the foreign trips have been deferred indefinitely, noting that the President is prioritizing national security concerns over international engagements.

“President Tinubu has chosen to remain in the country to oversee the ongoing security operations and ensure the safe return of all abducted citizens,” the statement read.

The postponement underscores the gravity of the security challenges facing the nation, particularly the recent mass abduction of 25 schoolgirls from Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Kebbi and the deadly attack in Kwara State.

Vice President Shettima, who visited Kebbi State on Wednesday, is expected to submit a detailed situation report to the President, along with assessments from the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Police Force.

The development highlights the administration’s increased focus on domestic security amid growing concerns about terrorist activities and mass abductions across northern Nigeria.
