UMUAHIA – The Abia State Government has officially revoked the Certificate of Occupancy and retaken possession of the Abia Hotels in Umuahia from the lessee, Investment Guarantee Limited.
The decision, announced by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor on November 16, 2025, follows the company’s failure to fulfill the terms of a Development Lease Agreement signed in 2013. The agreement required the firm to upgrade and redevelop the property into a 3-Star Protea Standard Hotel, a commitment that remained unfulfilled after 12 years.
In a move described as investment-friendly, the state government confirmed it has offered and paid compensation to the company for costs incurred. The government stated the repossession was necessary to ensure the state asset is utilized for its intended purpose for the benefit of the citizens.
