Fresh political pressure is mounting within Bende Federal Constituency as stakeholders intensify calls for the House of Representatives seat to remain in Bende South (Ikwuisii) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The agitation follows indications that the current occupant, Benjamin Kalu, may be eyeing a higher political office, sparking renewed debate around zoning, equity, and continuity within the constituency.
Advocates of the Ikwuisii bloc argue that since the seat is presently held by a representative from Bende South, fairness and political balance demand that the zone be allowed to complete its turn.
They maintain that zoning arrangements are designed to ensure inclusiveness and prevent domination by any single bloc.
Stakeholders also reference historical precedents, noting that Bende North (Umunna) held the seat for about 16 consecutive years prior to the emergence of Kalu. According to them, this prolonged dominance strengthens the case for allowing Bende South to consolidate its current position.
“Equity demands that the Ikwuisii bloc finishes what it started,” a community leader stated, warning that any disruption could reignite concerns over marginalization.
Attention is now turning to potential successors from the area, with Hon. Emmanuel Ndubuisi frequently mentioned among those being considered. Supporters describe him as a grassroots politician capable of sustaining ongoing development efforts.
Political analysts believe the outcome of the zoning debate will significantly shape the race for Bende Federal Constituency, as stakeholders continue to weigh equity, unity, and strategic political interests ahead of 2027.
