A distressed mother in Ibadan, Oyo State, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, to rescue her daughter and other passengers reportedly abducted on their way to National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camps.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the woman appealed in a viral video on Thursday. She said the abducted passengers were travelling from Ibadan to Akwa Ibom State, and that the abduction happened on the Imo/Abia road.
According to the mother, her daughter, Kehinde, is a prospective corps member. She said Kehinde left Ibadan on Wednesday and spent the night in Imo State before continuing the journey early on Thursday. Shortly after 6 am, Kehinde sent a message containing the word “kidnapper” to the family’s WhatsApp group and tried to call, after which her phone became unreachable.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that at least two commercial buses were reportedly attacked on the Owerri-Onitsha Expressway in Imo State, with passengers robbed and taken into the bush. The mother said 19 people were abducted, but the exact number has not been confirmed, and some reports put the figure of corps members at about 18.
She said her daughter’s twin sister had already arrived at her camp in Enugu.
At the time of reporting, the Imo State Police Command had not issued an official statement, and its spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, had not responded to calls and messages. The mother said security operatives had been deployed to search the bush.
Families are anxiously awaiting news of their loved ones.
