Residents Question Stalled Ohanze–Akirika Obu Road in Ukwa East, Group Alleges Deputy Governor Halted Work

…Ndoki Residents Demand Explanations as Deputy Governor’s Directive Sparks Concern

A socio-political group, the Ndoki Grassroots Movement, says residents of Ndoki communities in Ukwa East Local Government Area, Abia State, are raising concerns over the progress and completion of the 12.6-kilometre Ohanze–Ntighauzo–Obete–Umuoha–Oberete–Akirika Obu Road.

CDA News Nigeria reports that the road was awarded by the state government under Governor Alex Otti and is meant to link Obingwa and Ukwa East Local Government Areas. The group said residents regard it as a major route for the area.

According to the group, the contractor was instructed to stop work before reaching parts of Akirika Obu by the Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu. The group said this was captured in a video that has been trending on social media.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the group claims earlier preliminary work by the contractor has left the road completely inaccessible, which it described as a calamity for residents. It asked why a road designed to connect communities should stop before reaching the communities it is meant to serve.

The group said residents may demand answers from those responsible for the project and from politicians seeking votes as the election season approaches. It added that residents unhappy with the handling of the project may argue that Governor Otti should hold his deputy accountable if his administration suffers electoral consequences in Ukwa East.

CDA News Nigeria got this information from Ndoki TV over the state of the road. The Abia State Government, the Deputy Governor’s office and the contractor had not commented at the time of filing.
