The Rivers State Police Command has issued a rejoinder correcting an error in its earlier press release regarding a suspected kidnapping incident in the Government Reserved Area (GRA) of Port Harcourt.
In a statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Command clarified that the prime suspect earlier identified as Joseph Abibo is correctly named Joseph Aboy.
The correction follows the initial report issued on March 31, 2026, titled “Police Arrest Kidnapper, Recover AK-47 Rifles.”
The case stems from a distress call received on March 20, 2026, from a 35-year-old resident, Mr. Fadi Nasser, who reported that armed men invaded his residence along Orogbum Crescent, Woji Road.
The attackers reportedly attempted to abduct him and opened fire during the operation. However, the victim escaped unharmed, prompting swift police intervention.
According to the Command, Joseph Aboy was arrested by operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit in Aluu.
During subsequent operations, he reportedly led officers to his gang’s hideout, where a heavy exchange of gunfire ensued. Aboy and six members of his gang escaped with bullet wounds.
The Police have now launched a manhunt for Aboy, described as about 5 feet 6 inches tall, dark-complexioned, with a spider tattoo on his right arm.
