The media personality described the cleric’s intervention as “clueless, reckless and irresponsible,” adding that no amount of “spiritual blackmail” can stop the FBI from fulfilling its obligation to the court.
Media personality and public affairs analyst, Rufai Oseni, has strongly criticised Primate Elijah Ayodele, the leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, over his recent call for President Bola Tinubu to block the release of FBI documents concerning his alleged drug trafficking and money laundering history in the United States .
Ayodele, in a statement on Monday, had urged President Tinubu to “immediately stop” the release of the documents on “national security grounds” to avoid a potential “constitutional crisis” that could plunge Nigeria into chaos . He claimed that if the documents were released without the president’s intervention, it would have serious political and legal implications for the nation .
However, Oseni, in a post on his X handle, described the cleric’s intervention as “clueless, reckless and irresponsible,” adding that no amount of “spiritual blackmail” can stop the FBI from fulfilling its obligation to the court . He questioned the cleric’s motives, asking: “Does he think Nigerians are stupid or does he actually believe that Tinubu was the victim of a drug ring that forfeited thousands of dollars to the US government in 1993?”
The FBI has been pushing for the release of the documents, while Tinubu’s lawyers have been trying to prevent their disclosure in court proceedings . U.S. federal judge Beryl Howell is expected to issue a ruling soon on whether the FBI must make public records of its investigation into Tinubu .
