Maiduguri, Borno State — Soldiers and police operatives have successfully foiled a suspected ISWAP attack on a school in Borno State, rescuing 46 students during a coordinated security operation. CDA News Nigeria gathered that the swift intervention by security personnel prevented the insurgents from carrying out the planned attack.
According to information gathered by CDA News Nigeria, the operation was launched after security agencies received intelligence about the movement of suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). Troops and police officers reportedly engaged the attackers, forcing them to retreat while safely evacuating the students.
The attempted attack highlights the continued security challenges in parts of Nigeria’s North-East, where security forces have intensified operations against insurgent groups to protect civilians and critical public infrastructure, including schools.
“Our personnel responded promptly to credible intelligence, successfully thwarted the attempted attack, and rescued all 46 students. Operations are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects,” a security source said.
Security agencies have assured residents that efforts are ongoing to strengthen surveillance and maintain the safety of schools and communities across Borno State. Investigations into the incident and follow-up operations are continuing.
