…Party Says Nwaogu Never Resigned, Faults NDC’s Claim
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has insisted that Distinguished Senator Nkechi Justina Nwaogu remains a bona fide member of the party, dismissing claims by the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) that she belongs to the opposition party.
CDA News Nigeria reports that in a statement signed by the APC Abia State Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, the party said it was reacting to a press release by the NDC claiming Nwaogu, popularly known as “Mama APC,” is a member of the NDC.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the APC said Nwaogu purchased the APC Senate nomination form and participated in the party’s senatorial primary election held on May 18, 2026, where she scored 12,033 votes to emerge as runner-up. Hon. Erasmus Cishark served as the Returning Officer and Chairman of the APC Senatorial Primary Election Committee.
“For the sake of emphasis, Senator Nwaogu’s name is contained in the party’s register submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the 10th of May 2026, being the last day for the submission of party registers to INEC, and there is also no record of her resignation from the All Progressives Congress,” the statement read.
The party said Nwaogu, having served as a lawmaker and being an experienced one, understands the legal implications of double registration, adding that it had no reason to believe she would consciously subject herself to such a situation.
“It is important to state categorically that all her registration details, including her membership card details, remain in our party’s database and in the database of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as a member of the All Progressives Congress. Let us repeat for the second time that at no time did our cherished Mama APC resign her membership of the All Progressives Congress,” the statement said.
The APC called on the NDC to desist from circulating information that is misleading and inconsistent with the records available to the relevant authorities, and to refrain from creating unnecessary confusion among members of the public where the facts are clear and verifiable. The party said Nwaogu’s membership records, participation, and financial records are documented and verifiable.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the claims by both parties are attributed to their respective statements, and the matter of Nwaogu’s party membership remains a dispute between the APC and the NDC.
