South East Youths Urge Deputy Speaker Kalu to Contest 2027 Abia Governorship

Youth leaders from the South East have urged the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chinedum Kalu, to consider running for the 2027 governorship election in Abia State.

The appeal was made during a town hall meeting in Umuahia, where community leaders and youth representatives highlighted Kalu’s legislative experience, leadership track record, and commitment to regional development as qualities suitable for the governorship.

Speaking on behalf of the youth coalition, a representative said, “We believe Deputy Speaker Kalu has what it takes to transform Abia State. His understanding of governance, coupled with his vision for youth empowerment and infrastructural development, makes him the ideal candidate.”

Kalu, who has served in the National Assembly for multiple terms, has been actively involved in national and regional policy matters, particularly in the areas of education, infrastructure, and economic empowerment.

Political analysts note that the endorsement reflects a growing trend of youth activism in the South East, as younger generations seek more direct involvement in political decision-making and leadership selection.

While Kalu has not formally declared his intention to contest the governorship, the call from youths is expected to add pressure on him to consider entering the race. Observers say his potential candidacy could reshape political alignments in Abia ahead of the 2027 elections.
