‘Supreme Court Has Ended All Hurdles’ — Kurugu, Mukhtar and ADC Leaders Express Optimism as Party Crisis Nears Resolution

Leading figures within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), including prominent party stalwarts Kurugu and Mukhtar, alongside other key party leaders and stakeholders, have stepped forward with bold and upbeat expressions of optimism following the Supreme Court’s latest pronouncements on the party’s prolonged and deeply damaging internal leadership crisis — declaring with confidence and conviction that the apex court’s ruling has effectively and permanently “ended all hurdles” standing in the way of the party’s forward march.

The mood within the ADC’s leadership circle has shifted noticeably from the anxiety, uncertainty, and institutional paralysis that characterised much of the party’s recent period of internal crisis — with Kurugu, Mukhtar, and their fellow party leaders projecting a renewed sense of direction, legal clarity, and organisational purpose as they look ahead to the critical task of rebuilding the ADC’s structures and restoring its competitive credibility ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kurugu, a well-known and influential figure within the ADC’s national political network, expressed strong confidence that the Supreme Court’s intervention has provided the definitive and binding legal resolution that the party had long needed to move beyond the factional disputes, conflicting court orders, and leadership confusion that had effectively frozen the ADC’s operations and undermined its public standing as a credible opposition platform.

Mukhtar equally struck an optimistic and forward-looking tone, urging all ADC members — including those who had aligned with rival factions during the crisis — to set aside past differences, accept the Supreme Court’s ruling as the final word on the party’s leadership question, and unite behind a common agenda of rebuilding, reconciliation, and electoral preparation ahead of 2027.

The expressions of optimism from Kurugu, Mukhtar, and their colleagues come, however, against a backdrop of lingering uncertainty within sections of the party, with some stakeholders and observers cautioning that the work of genuine reconciliation, structural rebuilding, and political repositioning will require far more than legal victories alone — demanding sustained effort, inclusive leadership, and a credible and compelling political vision capable of attracting candidates, voters, and resources in what promises to be an intensely competitive 2027 electoral environment.

The ADC’s ability to translate the Supreme Court’s legal clarity into genuine organisational momentum and electoral relevance will now be the defining test of its leadership — and a question that the Nigerian political community will be watching with considerable interest in the months ahead.

INEC’s recent formal recognition of the David Mark-led ADC leadership has further bolstered the confidence of the party’s mainstream faction, providing the regulatory green light needed to resume full operational activities across the country’s states and local government areas.

Political analysts note that the ADC now has a narrow but real window of opportunity to rebuild its brand, recruit credible candidates, and position itself as a meaningful political alternative ahead of 2027 — but only if its leaders move decisively, inclusively, and strategically from this point forward.
CDA News Nigeria will continue to monitor and report all developments within the ADC and Nigeria’s broader 2027 electoral landscape.
