The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and several political parties are reportedly at loggerheads over the issuance and management of access codes required for the upload of candidates’ nomination details ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The disagreement is said to be centered on the digital nomination system used by parties to submit candidate information, with concerns raised over delays, verification procedures, and technical access issues.
Party officials have alleged that difficulties in obtaining or activating access codes could disrupt internal deadlines for primaries and nomination submissions, potentially affecting preparations for the polls.
On its part, INEC has maintained that the nomination portal and access system are designed to ensure transparency, security, and accuracy in the electoral process, insisting that political parties must comply strictly with guidelines.
Electoral observers warn that any prolonged dispute between INEC and political parties could create bottlenecks in the election timetable, especially as parties intensify preparations for primaries and candidate selection.
Stakeholders have called for urgent dialogue between both sides to resolve the concerns and ensure a smooth and credible electoral process ahead of 2027.
