The All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded a major political boost in Umuimenyi/Nkpa Ward, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, following the defection of over 500 members of the L&B Foundation from the Labour Party (LP) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to the ruling party.
The mass defection reportedly took place during the “Morning Tea with Widows” programme organized by the Mazi Ekweronu Foundation, which also served as a town hall meeting involving community leaders, political stakeholders, and residents.
The event provided an avenue for discussions on ongoing and completed developmental projects facilitated in Bende Federal Constituency by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, leaders of the L&B Foundation said their decision was influenced by what they described as visible infrastructural development and empowerment initiatives in the area. They stated that these achievements convinced them to align with the APC.
They also praised the convener of the programme, Engr. Nnadozie Ekweronu, for grassroots mobilization efforts and commitment to community development, pledging loyalty to the party and support for future political activities.
Political observers say the development represents a significant grassroots gain for the APC in the area, potentially strengthening its structure ahead of future elections.
