ABUJA/IBADAN – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has swiftly dismissed a Federal High Court ruling that nullified its November 2025 national convention and sacked the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Aminu Turaki, insisting that its current leadership remains “legally intact” and vowing to appeal the decision.
In a statement on Friday, the party’s factional National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, argued that the court declined to grant the order sought by the Turaki group because it would amount to “sitting on appeal” over decisions of courts of equal jurisdiction.
Despite the court’s explicit order barring the Turaki-led NWC from parading as party officials and affirming a rival caretaker committee, the PDP maintained its position. “Notwithstanding this judgment, the Kabiru Turaki–led Peoples Democratic Party, which emerged from the Ibadan convention, remains legally intact and unshaken, as we await the authoritative pronouncement of the appellate courts,” Ememobong stated.
The party announced it has instructed its legal team to “immediately file an appeal” and pursue all necessary legal steps to protect its stance. It called on its members nationwide to remain calm and resolute, assuring them that “there is absolutely no cause for alarm.”
The defiant response sets the stage for a protracted legal battle within the main opposition party, creating a scenario where two factions—the court-affirmed caretaker committee and the Turaki-led NWC—could both claim legitimacy until a higher court makes a final determination.
