Tinubu Orders Withdrawal of APC 2027 Campaign Council List Over Omissions

ABUJA — President Bola Tinubu has reportedly ordered the withdrawal and review of the initial All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council list for the 2027 election following concerns raised by party stakeholders over the exclusion of several prominent figures .

The initial list, released on August 22, contained 223 members and appointed former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari, as Director-General . President Tinubu is to serve as Chairman, while Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, are Vice Chairmen .

However, the composition generated significant criticism within the APC, particularly over the absence of some influential party members. Among those reportedly omitted were Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu; former Plateau Governor Simon Lalong, who served as Director-General of the 2023 campaign; Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo, a prominent spokesman in the 2023 campaign; and former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello, the campaign’s National Youth Coordinator .

Others left out include National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, former Ogun Governors Gbenga Daniel and Ibikunle Amosun, and Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo . Senior APC members indicated that the initial list was not final and adjustments were expected to accommodate influential figures .

According to reports, President Tinubu directed his Chief of Staff, the National Assembly leadership, and the APC National Working Committee to work on a revised structure after being “embarrassed” by the lapses .
