Trump to Hold Situation Room Talks on Iran as Nuclear Deal Stalls

US President Donald Trump is scheduled to hold a high-stakes meeting with his top national security and foreign policy advisors later today .

The Situation Room talks come as the administration grapples with a diplomatic deadlock over efforts to end the two-month-old conflict in the Middle East. Officials are expected to discuss the current stalemate and evaluate potential options for the next steps in the war .

Iran’s New Proposal and Stumbling Blocks
Ahead of the meeting, Axios reported that Iran has presented a new offer to the US via Pakistani mediators. The proposal centers on reopening the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz and ending the US naval blockade of Iranian ports .

However, a key condition of Tehran’s plan is that negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program would be postponed to a later stage .

Administration officials have indicated that this proposed framework still falls “well short” of Washington’s red lines. The primary sticking point remains the insistence by the White House that any final agreement must fully dismantle Iran’s nuclear ambitions. “They cannot have a nuclear weapon, otherwise there’s no reason to meet,” Trump told Fox News .

Following the cancelation of a planned envoy trip to Pakistan over the weekend, Trump has invited Iranian leaders to communicate directly via telephone.

“If they want to talk, they can come to us, or they can call us. You know, there is a telephone. We have nice, secure lines,” Trump said during an interview.

This marks a diplomatic pivot after Tehran’s foreign minister departed Islamabad, likely without a formal meeting with US representatives .
