Two Suspects in Police Net Over Gruesome Murder in Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of a 27-year-old man, identified simply as Okon, in the Ukanafun Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement issued on Sunday, April 19, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Timfon John, disclosed that the victim was found burnt beyond recognition inside his room at Ikot Udo Obobo Village, under circumstances that strongly suggest a deliberate and violent act.

Following the discovery, police operatives, acting on credible intelligence, swiftly mobilized to the scene and launched a full-scale investigation. Through sustained intelligence-led operations, two suspects—Idem Etim (male) and Namkere Ikoboatang (female)—were apprehended and are currently in custody, providing useful information to aid ongoing investigations.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, has ordered a comprehensive investigation to ensure that all persons involved in the heinous act are identified and brought to justice without delay. The Command categorically stated that the case is a clear act of culpable homicide and will be pursued with the full weight of the law.

The Police Command also issued a stern warning to criminal elements, stating that Akwa Ibom State is not a haven for violent offenders, and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
