UNIBEN Student, Girlfriend and Two Others Killed in Alleged ₦90 Million Yahoo Money Dispute in Benin

Fresh and disturbing details have emerged following the brutal killing of a 200-level University of Benin (UNIBEN) student, Alexander Omogiate, who was shot dead by masked gunmen near the institution’s main gate shortly after completing his semester examinations.

According to eyewitness accounts, armed men opened fire on Omogiate’s vehicle in a targeted attack, killing him instantly. Three other occupants of the car — identified as Onwuke Blessed, Chinenye Christian Mbagwu, and Dorothy Ubah — sustained gunshot wounds and were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Dorothy Ubah subsequently succumbed to her injuries.

The bloodshed did not end there. Reports indicate that Omogiate’s girlfriend was killed in a separate attack along Airport Road hours later, while another unidentified victim was reportedly shot dead around the Uselu axis of Benin City.

Unconfirmed sources allege that the killings are connected to a dispute over ₦90 million linked to suspected internet fraud associates, though this claim is yet to be officially verified.

In a shocking development, the Chairman of UNIBEN’s Anti-Cult Committee, Venerable Egbenusi, has tendered his resignation, alleging that the Vice Chancellor pressured him to delete video evidence connected to the violence prior to the shooting.

UNIBEN management and the Edo State Police Command are yet to issue official statements on the matter.
