Uniuyo to Install CCTV, Biometric System on Campuses – New VC

The newly inaugurated Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Professor Christopher Ekong, has announced plans to deploy modern security technologies, including Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras, drones, and biometric log-in systems across all university campuses.

The announcement came during his investiture as the ninth substantive Vice Chancellor of the institution, where he unveiled an ambitious reform agenda to reposition the university for academic excellence and global competitiveness.

As part of his first 100-day action plan, the VC said the university would install CCTV and biometric systems on campuses to help determine the actual population of staff and students while strengthening campus security and accountability.

“We shall ensure zero insecurity outcomes across all campuses, block all security vulnerabilities and deploy cutting-edge technologies to secure the university environment,” Ekong stated. He also announced plans for a comprehensive institutional audit covering infrastructure, finances, human resources, academic programmes, and administrative systems.
