Veteran Nigerian Actor, Olu Jacobs, Dies At 84

Veteran Nigerian actor and film executive, Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has died at the age of 84.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that his son, Olusoji Jacobs, announced the death in an Instagram post on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, describing the late actor as a cherished husband, father, grandfather and uncle, and referring to him affectionately as “The Lion of Lufodo.”

The family’s statement read, “It is with gratitude to God for a life well lived and fought that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and uncle, The Lion of Lufodo,” noting his birth and death dates as 11/07/1942 to 16/09/2026. The family appealed to bloggers and social media influencers to respect their privacy during the mourning period.

Born on July 11, 1942, Jacobs trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, beginning his career in British television and international productions before returning to Nigeria, where he became a towering figure in the country’s film industry across theatre, television and film for decades.

He earned numerous industry honours throughout his illustrious career, including the Industry Merit Award at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards and a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Africa International Film Festival. Alongside his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, Jacobs was also instrumental in developing Nigeria’s performing arts scene through the Lufodo Group.
