Former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Alhaja Sinatu Ojikutu, has described the N130 million land fraud allegation against her as politically motivated, insisting the controversy stemmed from a land agent’s error rather than a deliberate attempt to defraud anyone.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that Ojikutu clarified during an interview at the 2026 PR Forum/CSR Exhibition & Award, recalling that she was declared wanted following a June 2014 police petition alleging that she and her son, Sampson, were involved in a Lekki land scam.
According to her, an agent mistakenly identified a vacant plot as her late husband’s property, when his actual land was on an adjoining, already-developed plot. After her lawyer confirmed no encumbrance on the vacant plot at the land registry, she proceeded to sell it, only for a dispute to arise when another claimant emerged as the buyer began development.
Ojikutu clarified that the actual sum involved was N120 million, not N130 million as widely reported, explaining that she refunded the buyer in stages, N50 million initially and the remaining N70 million later, after discovering the property had questionable ownership history.
She alleged the matter was politically exploited as an election approached and she was actively campaigning, insisting efforts were made to damage her reputation, including contacting the US Embassy over her travel, which she said was purely for pre-scheduled medical reasons.
Ojikutu maintained she had never embezzled public funds throughout her career, attributing the controversy to her known opposition to corrupt practices, and said she has since gone to court to reclaim her late husband’s property.
