TCN Announces Five-Hour Power Outage In Niger State

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a five-hour power outage in Bida and surrounding communities in Niger State to enable annual preventive maintenance at its Bida 132/33kV Transmission Substation.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the maintenance exercise took place on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, between 8 am and 1 pm, with the company’s crew carrying out preventive work on a 60MVA 132/33kV transformer and associated switchgear.

According to TCN, the exercise affected electricity supply to several communities served by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), including Bida Town, Army Barracks, Agaie, Doko, Baro, Zago, Emi Rani, Bussu, Laugba Goshigi, Lafiyagi Essa, Amgulu, Mansantali, Agaie Town, Low Cost, Masaga and surrounding villages.

TCN assured that power supply would be restored to the affected areas upon completion of the maintenance work, while apologising to customers for the inconvenience caused by the planned outage.

The company said the exercise forms part of its ongoing preventive maintenance programme aimed at improving the reliability and stability of Nigeria’s electricity transmission infrastructure.
