Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Brazil to represent Nigeria at the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 30).

The summit, convened by Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, is themed “Climate Action and Implementation” and runs from November 6 to 7 in the city of Belém.

According to a statement from his office, VP Shettima is scheduled to present Nigeria’s national climate action address at the leaders’ plenary. His agenda includes high-level roundtables on energy transition and the review of the Paris Agreement, chaired by President Lula.

On the sidelines, the Vice President will hold bilateral meetings focused on unlocking carbon finance for Nigeria, a move that could generate billions annually for the nation’s climate goals.
