The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stated that the political crisis in Rivers State prevented Governor Siminalayi Fubara from pursuing a second term, blaming the development on poor political advice and the influence of external interests.
CDA News Nigeria reports that Wike made the remarks during the August edition of his monthly media chat aired on Channels Television, where he reflected on his relationship with the Rivers governor.
According to Wike, he repeatedly advised Fubara not to abandon the political structure that supported his emergence as governor. He argued that instead of consolidating the foundation already laid, the governor listened to individuals who allegedly encouraged confrontation with his political benefactors.
The former Rivers governor maintained that those who initially opposed Fubara’s emergence later became his closest advisers and misled him into decisions that ultimately cost him the opportunity to seek another term in office.
Wike also disclosed that several reconciliation efforts were made but failed due to political interests. He further alleged that some external forces viewed Rivers State as a “cash cow” and attempted to hijack the state’s political structure for personal gain.
CDA News gathered that Wike insisted he still cares about Fubara but maintained that the governor became the biggest loser in the prolonged political crisis that engulfed Rivers State.
