Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has publicly disclosed that Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, promised to “hold the PDP” for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.
Governor Makinde revealed this during a media chat in Ibadan on Tuesday, recounting a meeting he attended with President Tinubu, Wike, and others where the unsolicited pledge was made.
“I was in a meeting with the President and Wike and a few others, and Wike said to the President that I will hold PDP for you against 2027,” Makinde stated, explaining that this commitment was not agreed upon by other PDP stakeholders.
While affirming Wike’s right to support Tinubu, Governor Makinde declared he would not back the President’s re-election bid. He warned that attempts by the ruling APC to weaken the PDP risk undermining Nigeria’s multiparty democracy, urging all democrats to resist any move toward a one-party system.
Makinde Declares Presidential Readiness
Addressing his political future, Governor Makinde confidently stated he is “qualified” and “overqualified” to be Nigeria’s president in 2027. He cited his executive experience from two terms as governor and his background in running a private company from a young age as key credentials.
“By the end of May 2027, by God’s grace, I would have completed two tenures as governor of Oyo State. Professionally, I ran a company from a very young age,” he said.
The governor also addressed local issues, including the Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road project, clarifying that the land corridor was gazetted before his administration and emphasizing a humane compensation approach for affected residents.
