Witness: Okoli Did Not Directly Urge Boycott of Erisco Product

A prosecution witness in the trial of Chioma Okoli has told the Federal High Court in Abuja that the defendant did not directly call for a public boycott of Erisco Foods’ tomato paste.

Mr. Nnamdi Nwokolo, a representative of Erisco Foods, stated under cross-examination that while Okoli’s social media post implied consumers should not buy the product, she did not explicitly urge a boycott.

He also confirmed the company did not recover any fake Erisco product from Okoli, despite alleging she was part of a syndicate circulating counterfeit paste.

Justice Peter Lifu adjourned the case to January 22 and reiterated his encouragement for both parties to explore an out-of-court settlement.

Okoli faces cybercrime charges related to a September 2023 Facebook post reviewing Erisco’s Nagiko Tomato Mix.
