Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived in Evian, France, to participate in the Group of Seven (G7) summit, where leaders are set to discuss ending Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Zelensky is expected to join G7 leaders for a special session on Ukraine, with securing additional air defense systems as his top priority following another large-scale Russian attack.
US President Donald Trump expressed optimism ahead of the summit, saying, “Maybe we can do something” on Ukraine after more than four years of conflict. The Ukrainian leader’s arrival in France for G7 talks comes as European leaders, led by French President Emmanuel Macron, are working to persuade Trump to continue supporting Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia.
Zelensky also proposed a face-to-face meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the summit, involving Trump and European leaders. He said the US and Europe supported the idea, but Moscow showed no willingness to participate.
The summit runs from June 15 to 17.
