105 Igbo Muslim Sisters Complete Qur’an Memorisation in Historic Enugu Achievement

The milestone highlights the growing presence and dedication of the Igbo Muslim community in Nigeria’s South-East.

In a remarkable display of faith and perseverance, a total of 105 Igbo Muslim sisters have successfully completed the memorisation of the Holy Qur’an in Enugu State, Nigeria . The achievement, celebrated in the state, represents a significant milestone for the Igbo Muslim community in the predominantly Christian South-East region.

The memorisation of the entire Qur’an, known as becoming a Hafiza (female memoriser), is a monumental spiritual undertaking requiring years of dedication and discipline. This accomplishment by 105 women from the region underscores the growing strength and commitment of the Muslim community in Igboland.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that this historic achievement has generated widespread celebration within the community, highlighting the increasing visibility of Igbo Muslims in the region. The news follows previous similar feats, including the graduation of 19 young Muslim children from Hayyatul Islam Ibagwa in Nsukka, Enugu State .

Historian accounts note that the presence of Islam in Igboland dates back decades, with the first generation of Igbo converts emerging during the 1930s to 1950s . Today, the community continues to grow, with initiatives like the launch of the first Igbo translation of the Holy Qur’an in 2022 further strengthening its foundation .

The sisters’ achievement demonstrates that Islam transcends tribal and regional barriers, with faith serving as a unifying force . Their dedication to memorising the Qur’an serves as an inspiration to Muslims across Nigeria and beyond.
