2027 Battle Erupts: Kano APC, Ganduje Clash with Kwankwaso Over Governor Yusuf’s Future

KANO – A fierce political battle has erupted in Kano State ahead of the 2027 elections, with the ruling APC and its former National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, trading sharp words with New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) leader, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, over the future of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The clash follows Kwankwaso’s first media interview since Governor Yusuf’s defection to the APC. Kwankwaso declared that Yusuf had “sealed his fate” for the 2027 governorship by aligning with Ganduje, his political rival. He stated that the moment Ganduje raised Yusuf’s hand in public, “it symbolised for us that he had lost the election.”

Ganduje swiftly fired back through his aide, Mohammed Garba, downplaying the former governor’s influence. “I am not God. Only God gives power,” Ganduje stated, urging prayers for everyone to be alive to see the 2027 outcome. The Kano APC Publicity Secretary, Hon. Ahmad Aruwa, went further, calling Kwankwaso’s comments “baseless and senseless,” and asserting that the former governor had lost political relevance and grassroots support in the state.

Kwankwaso expressed deep disappointment, accusing Governor Yusuf of “betraying the mandate” of NNPP supporters by handing it over to the “Gandujiyya political camp.” He warned that Yusuf would regret the decision, even as the APC confidently boasted of its strengthened structure with the influx of defectors, including lawmakers and local government chairmen.
