ABUJA – The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced a one-month extension of the application deadline for its student loan scheme for the 2025/2026 academic session, moving the cut-off date from January 31 to February 27, 2026.
The extension, announced in a statement on Thursday by NELFUND’s Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, is designed to give prospective applicants additional time to complete and submit their applications, ensuring maximum inclusivity and access to the federal government’s flagship education financing scheme.
The Managing Director of NELFUND, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, stated that the decision reflects the Fund’s commitment to ensuring that every eligible Nigerian student has a fair opportunity to benefit. “We understand that some applicants may require additional time to complete their submissions, and this decision ensures that every eligible Nigerian student has a fair opportunity to benefit from the Fund,” Sawyerr said.
NELFUND encouraged all prospective applicants who are yet to apply or complete their loan applications to take full advantage of the extended window. Eligible students are advised to ensure all required information and documentation are submitted accurately on or before the new deadline of February 27, 2026.
The loan scheme is a critical component of the federal government’s efforts to improve access to higher education by providing interest-free loans to cover tuition and other academic costs for students in public tertiary institutions.
