Abia Political Heavyweights Plan Lawsuit to Compel Governor Otti to Operate from Official Government House

A formidable coalition of former Abia State governors and prominent political figures from 1999 to 2023 has resolved to take legal action against Governor Alex Otti over his choice of operational base.

The group, following a meeting at the residence of former Governor Theodore Orji, announced its intent to file a lawsuit compelling Governor Otti to relocate all official state activities from his private residence in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South, to the designated Government House in Umuahia.

The coalition includes former Governors Orji Uzor Kalu, Theodore Orji, and Okezie Ikpeazu, alongside other former legislators and appointees. In a communiqué read by former media aide Victor Ike Oye, the group expressed strong dismay, stating the move is aimed at enforcing the proper use of official government facilities.

“This is not just a political disagreement; it is a matter of constitutional and administrative propriety. The Government House exists for a purpose, and the governor’s refusal to operate from there sets a poor precedent,” a source within the group stated.

Beyond the legal threat, the coalition also declared its commitment to mobilize support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and thanked him for nominating former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for an ambassadorial role.

This development escalates the political tensions in Abia State, moving a months-long controversy from the realm of public discourse toward a potential judicial resolution.
