Opposition parties, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), have criticized President Bola Tinubu for not attending the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremonies and called for improved welfare and funding for military personnel.
PDP national chairman Kabiru Turaki urged better welfare packages and adequate funding for security agencies to effectively tackle insecurity. ADC spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi described Tinubu’s absence as “deeply troubling,” stating that the Commander-in-Chief’s presence is a vital symbol of solidarity with troops and their families.
Both parties honored the sacrifices of fallen and serving soldiers but stressed that remembrance must translate into tangible governance, clear strategy, and genuine support for the armed forces.
