PDP Appoints Ikpeazu Chairman of Convention Committee

ABUJA, NIGERIA — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed former Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, as chairman of its National Convention Organising Committee ahead of the party’s 2026 convention.

The appointment was confirmed in a statement issued by the party’s National Caretaker Working Committee (NCWC) and signed by the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu. The committee is expected to oversee preparations for the PDP National Convention scheduled to hold from March 29 to March 30, 2026.

Ikpeazu, who currently serves as Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to Spain, will lead a team of party leaders and stakeholders drawn from across the country. The committee has been tasked with planning, coordinating, and ensuring the successful conduct of the convention in line with the party’s constitution and guidelines.

Party insiders say the selection of Ikpeazu reflects confidence in his administrative experience and leadership capacity, especially at a time the PDP is seeking to strengthen internal cohesion amid ongoing challenges.

The upcoming convention is considered crucial for the party’s reorganisation efforts and strategic positioning ahead of future electoral contests. Observers note that the outcome of the convention could shape the PDP’s direction in the coming political cycle.
