LAGOS, NIGERIA – Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have converged on Lagos for a crucial meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the ruling party intensifies consultations ahead of its upcoming primaries.
The closed-door session, held at the President’s official residence in Lagos, saw the majority of APC governors in attendance. Sources close to the meeting revealed that discussions centered on party unity, zoning arrangements, and strategies for a smooth primary process across various states.
“We are here to align with the President on the way forward. The party must remain united as we approach the primaries,” one governor told journalists after the meeting.
The gathering comes amid growing tensions in some state chapters over delegate lists and consensus candidates. The President is said to have emphasized the need for internal democracy while cautioning against imposition that could lead to post-primary crises.
Party stakeholders have welcomed the meeting, describing it as a necessary step to ensure cohesion within the APC ahead of the crucial primaries. The National Working Committee is expected to release a finalized timetable for the exercises in the coming days.
