ABUJA, NIGERIA – Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has condemned the recent armed raid on his residence by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), describing it as “political intimidation” and a “deliberate humiliation.”
In a statement issued by his media office on Tuesday, Malami accused the anti-graft agency of abandoning due process and resorting to theatrical tactics aimed at tarnishing his reputation. He insisted that he had always operated within the bounds of the law during his tenure and had no case to answer.
“The armed raid on my residence was nothing but a calculated attempt at political intimidation. Due process was abandoned for theatrics,” Malami said.
The former AGF demanded an apology from the EFCC and called on the commission to focus on genuine anti-corruption efforts rather than what he termed “media-driven persecution.”
The EFCC had earlier marked a property linked to Malami in Abuja for forfeiture as part of an ongoing investigation. Sources have indicated that the commission is probing financial transactions and asset acquisitions during his time as chief law officer.
The EFCC is yet to officially respond to Malami’s allegations. However, sources within the commission maintain that all actions taken are within legal frameworks and based on credible intelligence.
Political observers note that the confrontation between the former AGF and the EFCC adds to a growing list of post-administration accountability battles involving former high-ranking officials.
