ALLEGED ASSAULT OF INFANT IN OGUN SCHOOL SPARKS POLICE PROBE

ABEOKUTA, NIGERIA – The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into an alleged assault on an infant at a private school in the state, following outcry from parents and child rights advocates.

The incident reportedly occurred at a school in the Ota area, where a teacher allegedly subjected a toddler to physical abuse, leaving visible injuries. The child’s parents filed a formal complaint with the police after discovering the injuries, prompting authorities to intervene.

Police spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the investigation, stating that the accused teacher has been invited for questioning and that the command is taking the matter seriously.

“We will ensure a thorough investigation. The protection of children is paramount, and anyone found culpable will face the full weight of the law,” Odutola said.

The school management has reportedly suspended the teacher pending the outcome of the investigation, expressing regret over the incident and pledging full cooperation with law enforcement.

Child rights organizations have condemned the alleged assault, calling for stricter oversight of schools and mandatory background checks for teachers handling young children.

The case has reignited conversations about child protection in educational settings, with advocates urging parents to remain vigilant and report any signs of abuse promptly.
