MOSCOW, RUSSIA – Russia has expressed deep outrage over reports of an airstrike targeting a nuclear facility site in Iran, warning that such actions could trigger catastrophic consequences for regional and global stability.
The Russian Foreign Ministry, in a statement issued on Wednesday, condemned the reported attack—allegedly carried out by Israeli forces—on the Natanz nuclear facility. Moscow described the strike as a “dangerous provocation” that violates international law and undermines ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East.
“We are deeply outraged by this reckless act. Targeting nuclear infrastructure is unacceptable and could lead to uncontrollable escalation,” the ministry said.
Iranian officials have confirmed explosions near the facility but have yet to disclose the extent of damage. Israel has not officially commented on the reports, maintaining its longstanding policy of ambiguity regarding operations on Iranian soil.
The reported strike comes amid heightened tensions following a series of exchanges between Israel and Iran, including missile attacks and threats to Gulf shipping lanes. Russia, which maintains close ties with Iran, called for restraint and urged all parties to return to diplomatic channels.
The United Nations Security Council is expected to convene an emergency session to address the escalating situation.
